This year’s Fourth of July events promise to be the best ever. There are plenty of ways to celebrate, including festivals, parades and, of course, fireworks.

Bremen’s Firemen’s Festival continues through Saturday and will once again feature its extensive aerial display at dusk on Friday.

For some Bremen residents, the show can be viewed right outside their back door. The fireworks are set off from the soccer field just east of Sunnyside Park, Bremen Fire Department Chief Jerry Lanning says. If you’re not attending the carnival, he says, you’ll want to grab a seat on the bleachers at the softball field or any open area west of Woodies Lane.

Lakeville’s Freedom Fest parade boasts more than 50 entries this year, including the Marshall County 4-H Drill Team (just back from the Indianapolis 500 parade).

The parade begins at 9 a.m. Friday at Mangus Drive and continues for about a mile, ending up at Newtown Park. Folks can hang out at the park, where the country/gospel duo Cook & Belle will perform from 7:30 to 9:30. An extravagant fireworks display by Saint Evans Fireworks will culminate the day’s events at dusk, according to festival organizers.

Maybe you’d rather quietly toast the nation’s independence. If so, the fourth annual BBQ Festival at Round Barn Winery in Baroda is the place to be.

This year, the event will take place over two days, from 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday and July 6. Those attending the festival can enjoy music by Duke Tumatoe and the Power Trio on Saturday and pop/reggae/blues by Underwater People on July 6 while sipping a variety of wines and beers.

The annual Reds, Whites and BBQ competition will once again take place on Saturday. New this year will be a Best Firehouse BBQ contest to be held on Sunday.

Adults pay $10 for a one-day admission or $15 for both, while ages 13-20 pay $5 per day. Children age 12 and younger will be admitted free.
