INDIANA
Mishawaka
The 60th annual Memorial Day parade will step off at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Main and Third streets, then go north to Mishawaka Avenue and then west on Mishawaka to the band shell in Battell Park. The review stand will be in front of Albright United Methodist Church. The theme is "All Gave Some Some Gave All." A flyover by Mishawaka Pilots Club is set for about 8:45 a.m., weather permitting.
Memorial services: 7 a.m., St. Joseph Cemetery; 7:15 a.m., Mishawaka City Cemetery; 7:30 a.m., Fairview Cemetery; 8 a.m., Battell Park; 8:45 a.m., Main Street Bridge.
Middlebury
Memorial vigil, hosted by Mark L. Wilt Post 210, will take place from dusk (9 p.m.) Sunday to dawn (5:30 a.m.) Monday at Grace Lawn Cemetery, County Road 16. Middlebury American Legion members will man ceremonial guard posts, and the 288 veterans' graves will be lit. Visitors are invited to bring an artificial rose to be placed at the 5-foot cross.
Middlebury Memorial Day Parade steps off from Middlebury Elementary School, Indiana 13 South, at 10 a.m. The memorial ceremony will take place at Memorial Park following the parade and conclude with graveside services at Grace Lawn Cemetery. Contact: (574) 825-5121.
Plymouth
Memorial Day service starts at 10 a.m. Monday at Oakhill Cemetery. Officiating will be Michael Dixon, pastor of Tyner United Methodist Church. Speaker will be Steve Beam, one of only three military men in Marshall County to reach the rank of E-9. Plymouth High School Band will provide music.
South Bend
A Memorial Day ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. Monday at the Military Honor Park at South Bend Regional Airport, organized by the St. Joseph County Memorial Day Society. The ceremony will be outdoors, rain or shine. Bring your own chairs. Circuit Judge Michael Gotsch will be the guest speaker. There will be flag-raising and the Michiana Concert Band will play a military salute.
Mamas Against Violence will hold its annual community walk and rally Saturday with the theme "We are Survivors." Marchers will gather at 9:30 a.m. at Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, 137 E. Indiana Ave., South Bend. The walk will start at 10 a.m. and proceed to the South East Park at Wenger and Fellows streets. The memorial service featuring the Rev. Ricardo Taylor and other speakers and performers will be at 10:30 a.m. in the park.
The West Side Memorial Day Parade will begin at 8:15 a.m. Monday, leaving from Western Avenue south on Summit Drive, then east onto Ford Street and ending at Olive Street. Line-up begins at 7:45 a.m.
The Marine Corps League Auxiliary will have a tribute to military personnel lost or buried at sea and veterans of all wars at 11 a.m. Monday in Howard Park, South Bend. Terry Monroe, a Vietnam veteran, will give a tribute to Vietnam veterans. There also will be the casting of the wreath, a firing detail with VFW Post 1167 and the playing of taps. Refreshments will be served immediately following the services. In the event of inclement weather, the service will be moved to VFW Post 1167, 1047 Lincoln Way E., South Bend.
Osceola
The Osceola Business Association will sponsor the first parade of the day at 8 a.m. Monday. Parade units will gather on Oregon Avenue and Grand Boulevard north of Lincoln Way. The parade will go east on Lincoln Way, north on Chestnut Street and west on Rogers Street to the Fern Hunsberger Park Fire Station. World War II veteran Army Cpl. George Rinkel will serve as the parade grand marshal. He is a member of the Osceola American Legion Post 308.
MICHIGAN
Berrien Springs
The documentary film, "Blue Devils, Marine Aviation Squadron VMF-451," will be shown at 7 p.m. Monday at Andrews University Airpark. Admission is free. A Boeing PT-17 Stearman, a biplane similar to the ones veterans of VMF-451 likely used for their early training, also will be displayed. Several members of the production crew also will be on hand to talk about the film and answer questions.
St. Joseph
Memorial Day parade will begin at noon Friday at the corner of Park Street and Lake Boulevard, marching toward John E.N. Howard Bandshell. Information: (269) 985-1111 or www.sjtoday.org.
Edwardsburg
Festivities Monday will begin with a kids' fun run at 8 a.m. A pancake breakfast will be from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Dr. Sweetland Award ceremony is set for 10 a.m. in front of the Edwardsburg Area Historical Museum, 28616 Main St. The parade will take off from Edwardsburg Middle School at 11 a.m., and the Memorial Day Festival (featuring Noah and Irene Carver performing) will begin at 2 p.m. at Gunn Park.
Niles
Memorial Day parade is set for 10 a.m. Monday, followed by a ceremony at Silverbrook Cemetery.
Buchanan
Memorial Day parade will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, followed by a ceremony at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
