On Friday, October 18th, 2013 at 1:54 pm, Deputies from the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office were summoned to the scene of a multi-motor vehicle crash on U. S. Highway 421, in rural Dewey Township, south of the town of LaCrosse, in La Porte County.

At 1:55 pm, deputies arrived at the scene on U. S. Highway 421, north of C. R. 2300 South. The investigation conducted by deputies revealed that a 2008 Chevrolet passenger vehicle for an unknown reason crossed the center line of the roadway and struck the axles of a northbound trailer that was being pulled by a 2004 Freightliner semi-tractor (commercial motor vehicle). After striking the trailer axles, the southbound vehicle proceeded to crash into a 2010 Jeep that was also northbound on U. S. Highway 421.

As a result of the crash, the driver of the southbound passenger vehicle sustained injuries. That driver was airlifted from the scene by Medflight and transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend for treatment. A juvenile passenger of the southbound vehicle and the driver of the commercial motor vehicle each sustained an injury and were both transported to Porter Regional Hospital in Valparaiso for treatment.

As a result of the crash, U. S. Highway 421 was closed for an extended length of time for investigation and clean-up purposes. The crash investigation is on-going and results of toxicology tests are pending for the driver of the southbound vehicle.
