Jury Can't Reach Verdict in Child Abuse Trial

(SBT24/7News) The trial of Barbara Schrock ended early Saturday morning with a hung verdict after a jury deliberated for several hours.

Schrock, 35, faced up to 20 years in prison, accused of injuring her 3-month-old baby girl in 2005. Schrock’s mother, Elaine Schrock, is also facing charges of neglect of a dependent in relation to the same incident.

Barbara Schrock’s five-day trial ended with the defendant admitting that she suffered from what she believed to be postpartum depression after the birth of her second child in 2005, but she denied ever mistreating the baby.

Elaine Schrock’s trial is scheduled to begin Oct. 15.
