(WSBT) South Bend Police are investigating a racial threat against six black students at St. Joseph's High School. Police say a custodian discovered a note Wednesday night.

While investigators won't detail the specifics of the letter, they say it contained a vague threat along with a racial slur. They have met with the parents of the students and school administrators.

"There's an element of surprise there because the students themselves are not directly connected," said Capt. Phil Trent of the South Bend Police Dept.

"I'm shocked. A school that has foreign exchange students in it and somebody's going around writing something like that," said Tracey Nickel, the mother of a student.

"It's really, really not good that in this world, we're still discriminating against people depending on what color you have," said student Lucienne Yoo.

A spokesman for the Fort Wayne South Bend Diocese says they're cooperating with police to find the person who wrote the letter.
