(WSBT) He's accused of having ties to terrorism. Now, an important court date looms for Ibrahim Parlak that could decide whether he stays in this country.

Ibrahim Parlak has lived in Harbert, Mich. for more than 10 years and runs a restaurant there. The government has ordered Parlak to leave the country, because it says he did disclose past ties to a Turkish terrorist organization.

On Monday, the U.S. Court of Appeals in Cincinnati will hear his case. Parlak says this might be his last and best chance to put this situation to rest. He feels the federal appeals court in Cincinnati will be more impartial than the immigration courts that have ruled against him. But, there is still a lot of uncertainty.

“It's still not a comfortable position, because three judge panel, they're going to sit there, you don't know them and they don't know you,” Parlak said. “And they're going to make a decision about your whole future.”

Parlak says he thinks about the possibility of being deported every day, but he doesn't let it consume him.

“I’ve learned to try to live day at a time, enjoy it as much as possible,” he said. “Then the next day, when it comes just deal with it.”

He says he's grateful for the support of prominent politicians such as Senator Carl Levin, D-Michigan and Rep. Fred Upton, R-Michigan.

“It gave the opportunity to bring my case to this level, otherwise I would not have been able to,” Parlak said. “Probably they would have grabbed me and sent me just like they did to my brother.”

His brother Huseyin was deported earlier this year.

In the end, he says he has no regrets about coming to this country, despite what has happened.

The three judge panel could make a decision following the arguments from both sides. If the panel rules against him, Parlak says there's a chance he may be able to stay in the country, because a bill that would give him citizenship is still pending in Congress. He has accepted the possibility he could be detained.
