Red Cross Asking For Monetary Donations For Nappanee Victims

By WSBT News1

(WSBT) Elkhart County's Chapter of the American Red Cross says they do not need any more food, water or clothing donations for victims of the tornado in Nappanee. But they are still asking for your help.

Red Cross volunteers have been in Nappanee since late Thursday night, staffing a shelter at the Nappanee Missionary Church, and delivering food and water to those cleaning up their homes.

But late Saturday, volunteers said they have a more than adequate supply of food, water and clothing, so they've begun to shift shift their assistance from a "first response" service to a "recovery effort."

"We're meeting with clients now and assessing their damage, after we get the damage reports from [the Federal Emergency Management Agency.] And we're offering further assistance to help them start to put their lives back together," said Elkhart County Red Cross Executive Director Linda Nelson.

Nelson says Red Cross workers are still in need of donations.

Mail or drop off your check at Red Cross headquarters in Elkhart.
