15 Arrested for Underage Drinking During ND-Navy Game

By Beth Boehne

(SBT24/7News) Fifteen people were cited by police for underage drinking in or near campus during Saturday’s Notre Dame-Navy football game.

All individuals were issued tickets for illegal consumption of alcohol and will be summoned to appear in court on the misdemeanor charge.

Indiana State Excise Police led the operation in its continuing effort to end underage drinking on and near college campuses. Notre Dame Security Police, St. Joseph County police and South Bend police assisted the excise officers.

As a student I never understood why there was so much alcohol in the dorms and it was accepted. We were scared of getting busted off-campus but had no such fear on-campus. Alcohol should be banned from dorms since most 21 y.o.'s live offcampus anyway

If you or I invited people onto our property to drink alcohol for hours, then one of those invitees got into a DWI car accident we'd have some responsibility for that. ND should be held to the same standard when they invite 80,000 to drink on campus

I am at a loss to explain why ND refuses to enforce the alcohol laws in its dorms and all the tailgating drinking on campus. ND blatantly violates the alcohol laws with apparent impunity. You and I would be in jail if we did what ND does.

The number of underage drunk and unruly students late night on weekends is outrageous. The ND police do nothing but observe when obviously these kids are drunk. Go to Recker's or the Huddle and you'll see it every weekend. Why is this allowed?

In my opinion, Rakow was a company man and so is Johnson. So, alcohol and drug law violations by students on the ND campus are rarely prosecuted. They have essentially legalized drinking by 18, 19, and 20 y.o.'s on campus.

The same SB party ordinances should be passed in the county and applied to ND. What goes around comes around. Then ND can be fined and their property confiscated. A raid on ND campus is long overdue (alcohol and drugs). Now that would be justice.

The ND Admin is afraid students won't live on campus if ND is dry. Most of the padres are heavy drinkers each evening (I'm being kind). ND has a financial interest in looking the other way on huge underage drinking in the dorms. NDSP is corrupt.

Unlike other Indiana colleges which prohibit alcohol (and even tobacco) in their dorms, ND thinks it is "above the law". Underage students blatantly display alcohol in their dorm rooms without concern from law enforcement. NDSP and Admin hypocrites.

The ND Admin controls NDSP hence they don't enforce the massive underage drinking in the dorms. They are hypocrites in backing apartment and party ordinances off-campus when 10x's the underage drinking happens in the dorms. ND is the bigger nuisance.

Does anyone have a copy of ND's Student Code of Conduct? I bet it prohibits underage drinking. They, ND officials just ignor it! Maybe WSBT needs to "investigate" that!

Saint Mary's and Holy Cross do a good job curtailing underage drinking on their campuses. Why doesn't Notre Dame? Why doesn't Notre Dame ENFORCE THE LAWS in its dorms? Underage drinking hurts and even kills students. It's a crime that needs to stop.

Did you know that ND “permits” underage students to possess and consume alcohol in their dorm rooms as freshmen? No wonder the alcohol problems and "above the law" student attitudes migrate off-campus. STOP UNDERAGE DRINKING ON CAMPUS FIRST!"

What a joke...only 15??? Try 15,000 would be more accurate if ND actually ENFORCED THE LAWS! Notre Dame Security Police PROTECTS ND's image and money, they don't enforce the law...instead they provide a safe haven for students to drink in the dorms.
