Police Arrest 12 Underage Drinkers at Notre Dame Game

By Beth Boehne

(SBT24/7News) The Indiana State Excise Police announced that 12 underage people reportedly possessing alcohol were arrested at Saturday's Notre Dame game.

The arrests came as part of an ongoing effort to discourage underage drinking at the events. One of the people arrested also was believed to be in possession of a fake ID.

Information from the arrests will be forwarded to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office for possible charges. The Indiana State Excise Police did not return two phone calls placed to their office Monday morning seeking the identities of those arrested.

I see Notre Dame Security Police's director Phil Johnson released a statement on the underage drinking arrests. Gosh, Mr. Johnson why aren't the underage drinking laws enforced when the excise police aren't there? I guess you'd get fired by ND then.

It would be hilarious if the Excise Police raided ND dorms.....there would record arrests that would dwarf "The Boat Club" raids. ND isn't above the law....so were is the Excise Police? They need to stop being nice and political and just do it!

You have to realize that N/D has a double standard to live by just like the democrats

Seriously, underage drinking is epidemic at the University of Notre Dame. Prohibiting alcohol in the dorms, esp. for underage, would be a start.

The truth is, if you owned a bar and had repeatedly had numerous underage drinking arrests on your property, you would be shut down and put out of business, period. Why ND gets away with it - out in the open - for decades is inexcusable. Lock'em up.

Alcohol is not a tailgate necessity...although it certainly helps when the Irish are 1-9!

I watched three young and dumb students fall into each other as they approached the stadium brfore the last game. They all had full bottles of wine and could barely stand. I was embarassed for them and had to explain it to my kids who love ND

Our rector used to leave for the night when we had SYR's in our dorm...he didn't want to see what went on. ND security never interfered despite the total underage drunken debauchery. Our rector was a pretty big drinker like most of the priests there.

If ND were a bar, they'd have had their liquor license yanked years ago.......80,000 fans with thousands of underage student drinking in the open and in dorms. The laws don't apply on ND property, eh?

Go find something better to do with your time. 80,000 fans and you pick out 12 underage drinkers. Keep up the great work.

Clintonius - ND is the fascism behind the scenes of off-campus party and apartment raids. Yet they ignore those same laws on their property? Just want equal enforcement here. On-campus drinking has resulted in injuries and death.

For decades, Notre Dame has allowed alcohol consumption in its dorms by students under the age of 21. The former in dorm SYR's served alcohol in the open dormwide. The ND alcohol hypocrisy is coming to light...and the administration is to blame.

Laws, laws, laws, laws....let's legistlate ourselves into fascism. Telling kids they can't have something encourages them to use it irresponsibly. We've created this culture by fearing alcohol, not respecting it.

Notre Dame is the only school in Indiana that "permits" under 21 y.o.'s to possess and consume alcohol in its dorms. ND is a public nuisance..more so than the off-campus bars and apartment complexes since this attitude begins as freshman on-campus.

I can't explain why ND refuses to ENFORCE the alcohol laws in its dorms...and on-campus tailgating. Is ND above the law? You and I would be in jail if we did what ND does. ND prompted enforcement off-campus, the same standard should be applied to ND.

Here we go again...it is like shooting fish in a barrel. I know the season is down, but there was a heck of a lot more underage drinking on-campus (ND property) this Saturday. They need to raid the dorms to enforce the law...and look for drugs too.
