(SBT24/7News) A St. Joseph County judge said during a court hearing Wednesday that he will request the jail to transfer a murder defendant back from Plymouth in preparation for his trial Nov. 26.

Judge Roland W. Chamblee Jr. said he didn’t know if the Sheriff’s Department would comply with his request and that he didn’t know why jail authorities transferred defendant Erskin Jenkins to the Marshall County jail.

Jenkins, 26, told the judge that he was taken out of the St. Joseph County jail because of baseless accusations that he verbally assaulted someone inside the jail. Jail authorities have declined to say why Jenkins was transferred because such information is confidential.

Jenkins faces one count of murder in the 2006 shooting death of Anwar Sadat Davis, 28. Davis died of a gunshot wound to the head after a scuffle with a group of people outside a gas station in the 1400 block of Bendix Drive.
