Murder of Mishawaka Man Leaves Friends and Neighbors 'Devastated'

By WSBT News1

(WSBT) Police have two people under arrest in connection with a murder in Mishawaka. The body of 57-year-old Brad Fulford was found inside his home on Hoosier Avenue early Sunday morning.

After several interviews, police arrested 24-year-old Kelly Patterson on a preliminary charge of murder and 33-year-old Denise Culp on a preliminary charge of assisting a criminal.

Authorities say two people walked into the Mishawaka Police Department late Saturday night to report a possible homicide. That's when officers drove to Brad Fulford's home and found him dead.

Neighbors were shocked when they learned what happened.

Fulford was Tim Gerald's neighbor and best friend.

"I looked out the window this morning I seen the tape and the cops and knew it wasn't good," he said. "It's devastating. I didn't expect it."

The Gerald’s say Bradley dated one of the suspects, Denise Culp, on and off for the last year.

Bradley was pretty popular around the typically small and quiet neighborhood.

"He had a lot of good friends," said Gerald.

The type of guy you could count on for anything.

"He's helped us in so many ways and we've helped each other," Gerald told WSBT News. "When I was in the hospital he would come over and help my wife. When my well went out he ran us some water."

The Geralds say the neighborhood will never be the same without him.

"You look over there now and all you think of is how horrific, someone, how someone so sick could take all that beauty away," said Sheryl Gerald.

"He was a hell of a nice guy. It shouldn't have happened," said Tim Gerald.

Police found Patterson and Culp at a local motel late Saturday night. Authorities say they were driving Fulford's car.

Investigators have not said how he died, but an autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
