(WSBT) Most teacher reward students with erasers, pencils or stickers. But Elkhart Central High School is giving away something even bigger.

One student will win a 2001 Chevy Malibu for perfect attendance.

Students will have their names entered into a drawing, and then at the end of the year, school officials will pick a winner.

“Our purpose for this is to raise our total attendance rate to 95 percent,” explained Assistant Principal Kelly Berheide. “We wanted to give the kids some real positive incentives, real good reasons to come to school. So we came up with this attendance program.”

Tom Naquin Chevrolet donated the car.

Students with perfect attendance can also win movie tickets, small electronics and extra privileges.

this is what is wrong with the kids today...they don't have the smarts to do something just because it is the right thing to do. Keep giving them stuff and the outcome will be sad. More dicipline and a good swat and less "poor baby" is needed!!!!!

it may be sad to bribe the kids, but with most parents not caring these days what there kids do. can you really blame the school for stepping in.....

Its pretty sad kids have to be bribed into going to school! Kudos to Tom Naquin for donating the car though.
