(WSBT) Five local charities will benefit this holiday season from the Pokagon Fund Contributions.

The Pokagon Fund receives 2 percent of the Four Winds Casino revenue.

With that money, the Pokagon Fund presented the local charities each with a $5,000 check.

One of these organizations is the New Buffalo Service League.

"We can do a lot of good. It's just phenomenal how much we can reach — we can reach at least 150 families with just our portion of the grant and that's what we're hoping to do to get the money spread around New Buffalo and Three Oaks," said Irene Brinkman, New Buffalo Service League Chair.

Irene works for many committees under the New Buffalo Service League. She says this grant will help families who need it during the holidays.

“We also try to help people in the community in need and other projects that are going on, we try to add money to their funds to help them," Brinkman explained. "And with this grant we’ll be able to reach so many more families and children through the holiday season so that they have a good Christmas.”

The Pokagon Fund also presented checks to the Harbor County Emergency Food Pantry, Irish Connection, Senior Nutrition Services, and Toys for Tots.
