South Bend Judge Puts ‘Career Criminal’ Behind Bars for Good

By Beth Boehne

(SBT24/7News) Calling him "among the worst career criminals that has come before this court," a judge Wednesday morning sentenced a 51-year-old South Bend man to 128 years in prison.

Donald Mallard was sentenced on six counts of armed robbery and one count of robbery for his involvement in a string of holdups at South Bend and Mishawaka businesses in April 2006.

Judge John M. Marnocha relied on Mallard’s past criminal history, which spans 34 years and includes seven other felony convictions, to impose a maximum sentence — what the judge called "essentially a life sentence."

Mallard was convicted by a jury after a trial in which his accomplice, Willie Anderson, testified against him. Marnocha sentenced Anderson to 30 years in prison in accordance to a plea agreement.

It kills me to see people like the person that disagrees. Looking out for the criminal. Not the principal, the victims, and punishment. Norway is #1 because they are the most liberal place in the world, but we are headed that way, fear not.

The maximum jail sentence ever served in Norway is 21 years...and do you know where they rank in the world as far as crime rate? #1. It's time we stop punishing people and start helping them.

Wow! After seven felony convictions a judge has the moxy to put this guy where he belongs. Citizens of St. Joseph county need to step up and challenge the system and demand an election process for judges.

Maybe the worthless "Honorable" (note the sarcasm) judges in the previous felony charges should have done this long ago.... Our judges and justice system is a joke. Our cops put their lives on the line to catch em, and the judges let em go!!!
