(SBT24/7News) Police are expecting to reopen U. S. 31 near Argos, where two semi-trucks collided Monday, between 4 and 6 p.m. Wednesday, according to a report Wednesday morning by an Indiana State Police official.

Sgt. Trent Smith, public information officer for Indiana State Police in Bremen, indicated the liquid natural gas that has been leaking from a semi tanker has now dissipated. Crews are now beginning to clean up the crash site, he said.

The highway will be reopened by late Wednesday afternoon "barring unforeseen circumstances,’’ he said.

The accident involved a semi trailer that rear-ended a semi tanker that had stopped at a railroad crossing. The driver of the semi trailer, William Merchant, 47, of Hopkins, Mich., was airlifted to Memorial Hospital in South Bend.
