U.S. 31 lanes to close Monday for soil cleanup

ARGOS, Ind. (AP) — Crews on Monday will close one lane in each direction of U.S. 31 in northern Indiana's Marshall County as they clean up contaminated soil from a tanker crash.

A tanker loaded with liquefied natural gas crashed Monday, causing the flammable material to leak. About 30 people were evacuated for a time from nearby homes and the highway was not reopened until Wednesday night.

On Monday, the Indiana Department of Transportation will close one northbound and one southbound lane as crews remove contaminated soil from the crash site about 30 miles south of South Bend.

State police warn that there may be congested traffic in the area.
