SOUTH BEND — The Food Bank of Northern Indiana needs your help. Food donations are down by nearly 2 million pounds, compared to where they were in 2005.

The Food Bank helps distribute food to more then 90,000 people in 6 area counties each year.

Lisa Jaworski is the Director of Operations for the Food Bank. She said the winter months are a time when many people much choose between paying rent and heating bills, and buying food.

"People need to donate because there are so many people who are food insecure, which means they're having to make a choice of where their next meal is going to come from and how to pay for that," said Jaworski.

The Food Bank accepts cash and food donations. For every $1 donation, the non-profit organization can buy $8 in food. It is also looking for volunteers to help sort food and work in the administrative office.

To help, you can call the Food Bank at (574) 232-9986. You can also drop off food or money at 702 S. Chapin St. in South Bend.

I sure can not donate can barely afford enough money to buy enough milk, food for the kids after that I have to buy gas to get to work. It is getting to the point where goodwill is getting too expensive for me lol. We work for all our money we have 3 kids, hubby and I are married and we recieve no welfare and we see people with food stamps buying double deckers of mountain dew and pop products and big bags of chips. We can not even afford gereric food let alone name brand junk food
