UPDATE: Red Cross opening shelters for flood evacuees

The American Red Cross reports that it is opening shelters to help residents cope with the flooding in northern Indiana.

  • St. Joseph County: Shelter is now closed
  • Elkhart County: Shelter remains open at Red Cross Chapter, 721 Riverview, Elkhart
  • Marshall County: Shelter remains open at United Church of Christ, 321 N. Center, Plymouth, IN
  • Fulton County: No shelter
  • Pulaski County: Evacuation shelter ready in case of flooding, Church of the Heartland, 890 E. State Road 14, Winamac, IN
  • Starke County: No shelter
  • Porter County: All shelters closed
  • LaPorte County: No shelters
  • Jasper County: First Christian Church in Remington is open and receiving evacuees, Remington, IN
  • White County: Shelter open, County Home, Norway

    The Red Cross encourages those who evacuate to the shelters to bring items of comfort, medicines, pillows and bedding, along with things for their children.
