PLYMOUTH — The water finally starting to recede in Plymouth.

But many people still can't get to their homes and businesses because of the high water.

The good news is that the Yellow River has already crested and is starting to go back down into its banks. But there is still a long road ahead.

"Obviously we're going to have a lot of debris and a lot of things to clean up,” said Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter.

That's just one of the challenges that the community of Plymouth is now facing. Around 45 homes and businesses are without a least part of their utilities.

"NIPSCO turned the gas off yesterday at 9 o'clock, so we've been running with space heaters and still seeing patients,” said Janelle Bottorff of Bottorff Chiropractic.

Crews have been out working to asses the situation and determine when utilities can be turned back on. Falling water levels will help.

"It will reach a point where there will be a significant withdrawal of water from the city,” said Conservation Officer Kent Dowdle. “But when that point is going to happen is anybody’s guess."

Thankfully that process has already begun.

"We’re down about four inches from where we were yesterday at this time so it definitely crested through the night,” Bottorff said.

But Janelle is still doing what she can to get the water out of her building.

"We've been running sump pumps and we've had pumps down in the basement so it’s held it off pretty good,” she said.
