The National Weather Service issued new forecasts late Sunday for when the flooding in Michiana may subside, extending flood warnings again for area rivers, including the St. Joseph, Yellow and Tippecanoe.

The most recent information includes:

St. Joseph River

  • In South Bend, the St. Joseph River flood warning is in effect until next Monday. At 6 p.m. Sunday, the river was measured at 8.3 feet and holding steady. It is not expected to fall below its 5.5 feet flood stage until 1 a.m. Sunday. This affects residents of St. Joseph and Elkhart counties in Indiana and Berrien in Michigan.

  • At Elkhart, the river was at 25.3 feet and holding steady at 10 p.m. Sunday. It is expected to fall below its flood stage at 1a.m. Friday. This affects parts of St. Joseph County and Cass County in Michigan.

  • In Niles, the river will be above flood stage until Saturday. At 5 p.m. Sunday, it was measured at 12.8 feet and holding steady, and is not expected to fall below its flood stage of 11.0 feet until 7 a.m. Friday.

  • At Three Rivers, the river was at 9.3 feet and steady at 10 p.m. Sunday. The National Weather Service expects some rise in river level is possible and will not cancel the flood warning until further notice. This affects people in Elkhart, Branch and St. Joseph counties.

  • At Mottville, affecting Constantine and parts of Elkhart, Cass and St. Joseph counties, the river was measured at 8.5 feet and steady at 10 p.m. Sunday. It is forecast to stay above 8.0 feet flood stage until 1 p.m. Wednesday.

    Yellow River

  • The Yellow River level was falling at 11 p.m. Sunday night. The last reading was 10.9 feet and it is expected to fall below flood stage of 10.0 feet at 7 a.m. on Tuesday. This affects Marshall, Starke and St. Joseph counties in Indiana.

    Tippecanoe River

  • The river remains under a flood warning until further notice. The National Weather Service expected the river to continue to rise above its flood stage of 12.0 feet until 1.a.m. this morning. It was measured in Starke County at 14.6 feet at 10 p.m. Sunday night and will continue to affect people in Fulton, Kosciusko, Marshall, Pulaski and Starke counties.

  • For residents of Pulaski County, the Tippecanoe reading level above Winamac was 13.7 feet and falling at 11 p.m. Sunday. However, it was expected to continue rising above its flood stage of 10.0 feet until 1 a.m. this morning and even continued rise remains possible, so the NWS warning is in effect until further notice.

    Kankakee River

  • Measured at 11 p.m. Sunday, the river was at 13.6 and steady. The warning for the river at Route 30, affecting LaPorte, Starke and St. Joseph counties remains in effect until further notice as the river may continue to rise above 10.0 flood stage.
