Police have arrested two people accused of starting that massive fire Saturday in downtown Nappanee.

Joseph McCall and Kimbert Crafton, both 22 years old and of Nappanee, are being held on a preliminary charge of arson.

Firefighters first responded to the historic building in the 100 block of North Main Street around 6:30 Saturday morning. The building housed a butcher shop and carpet store. The second story had apartments.

No one was seriously injured .

Crews had to tear down part of the building, and have been called out a couple of times to continue to put out hot spots.

To "just me wrote..." , I don't hang out in those taverns but I do go to a rather large church in Nappanee. And just retired from 20yrs federal service.I know a couple things about law by now. You shouldn't assume things without any facts about other people. ps-at least I can spell "wonder"...hmmm makes me wonder, but not assume anything about you. These guys that started the fire are getting charged with arson, but they could have killed all the occupants very easily. Hope they get the max.

with what nappanee has already been hit with the tornado i dont think they really need kids out starting fires its a good thing nobody got hurt and im glad they cought them arson is a big crime and they will find out, i think they ought to make them go do some time on the burn unit at a hospital to see what they could have done to someone in that building,

Thanks to police for doing good job and doing what was needed to put these two in jail. Just reading the posts made to the news where the jerks were proud of what they did by telling friends and family. I bet they were smilling and laughing to each other as the handcuffs were put on. I bet the police get so tired of dealing with people that think the laws are for everyone else except then selfs.

Fine job Fire/EMS and NPD done getting everyone out and etc. Hope things turn better for Nappanee soon. And I will add comment for Larry: After NPD stood on rooftops callin in PI's coming out of taverns I kinda lost some respect for them also. Of course they will use some formal excuse but they and we know what they were doing. What about the resident evacuated this bldg fire(attached bldg) and was arrested for a warrant when he returned to get a few belongings, he was already down on his luck.
