SOUTH BEND — The Indiana Department of Environmental Management is awarding a grant of $14,933 to the South Bend company Nimet Industries to help curb pollution.

The grant will help Nimet to install a nickel dialysis machine, which reduces the amount of waste that is produced from the company’s metal finishing process.

It was among $125,000 granted via the Indiana Pollution Prevention (P2) Grant Program, an initiative of Gov. Mitch Daniels. Other recipients were a sanitary district in Delaware County and a company in Marion County.

P2 grants are available to businesses, cities and towns and schools. Grants require a 50 percent match. Reduced match amounts are available for minority business enterprises, small businesses, members of the Environmental Stewardship Program and the Indiana CLEAN Community Challenge Program.

The application deadline for the next round of P2 grants is March 31. Applications and more information are available by calling (800) 988-7901 or going to the Web site www.in.gov/idem/prevention/p2grants.
