INDIANAPOLIS — A local lawmaker made the only “No” vote when the Indiana House passed a modified version of the governor's property tax relief plan.

Rep. Craig Fry (D-Mishawaka) voted against the plan.

It caps property tax bills, has stricter spending controls on local government and requires referendums on some local projects.

The plan also raises the state sales tax from 6 to 7 percent.

Fry claims previous efforts to provide property tax relief did not result in promised savings.

"They’re gonna get a third cut? Well, what about the 12 percent relief before, all the numbers they’ve used in the past? None of that ever came true,” Rep. Fry explained.

“You've seen hard-working, bi-partisan legislators working to a common goal to get this bill out early,” said Rep. B. Patrick Bauer (D-House Speaker).

The bill now moves to the Senate.
