The St. Joseph County Police released their 2007 crime numbers Wednesday, which officials said reflect some improvement in key areas.

Sgt. William Redman, spokesman for the county police, said in a statement that across eight areas of Federal Bureau of Investigation recorded crime categories, the overall trend is an 11 percent decrease over the same time period in 2006.

There were slight drops in arson and burglary reports in the past year, a lower number of auto thefts and about one-third less battery cases, the county's report said.

Homicides remained the same, with two recorded in each year.

Rape reports were up slightly, as were robberies.
