PLYMOUTH — Three weeks ago flooding devastated many communities in our area. Thursday President Bush declared a disaster for several counties in our area due to that flooding. That includes counties the following counties in Indiana: Carroll, Cass, Elkhart, Fulton, Jasper, Marshall, Pulaski, Tippecanoe and White.

“People can apply for money to improve their homes after the flood,” said Mark Senter, Mayor of Plymouth.

The first step is as easy as getting on the internet or picking up the phone.

“I called the phone number,” said Richard Schoolman. “It was pretty easy to sign up to register.”

Richard doesn’t yet know when or even how much money he’ll get for his home but he’ll certainly take the help.

“I have to wait until the adjusters have been here and they're working on it and when the papers come back we can get a hold of them and they’ll make arrangements for us to be elsewhere while they work on the house and get it done,” added Schoolman.

He’s seen flooding before. But just down the street the Kruders are new to the neighborhood and haven’t. They say they plan to make a request to FEMA too.

“Yeah, because we’d like to get the basement cleaned up and the crawl space. I had insulation all around the house now its pulled out. They floors are all cold. Yeah its freezing in the house again,” said the Kruders.

And this declaration is specific to only the recent flooding.

“That’s the damage they have had to their home in our January flood, the second week of January flood,” explained Mayor Senter.
