SOUTH BEND — The husband of the South Bend woman killed Saturday in a shooting at a suburban Chicago strip mall thanked the community Wednesday morning for its support.

Brian Bishop said his family appreciated the community’s thoughts and prayers and was "overwhelmed by your love and generosity."

Bishop also took a moment to remember his late wife, 34-year-old Jennifer Bishop, one of five women fatally shot at a Lane Bryant clothing store in Tinley Park, Ill.

Bishop said the couple’s three young children have a "tremendous support system" as they grieve the loss of their mother.

"She is a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, wife, and most of all mother. She loved her family and spent most of her time with family. Our children: Jacob, age 7, Joci, age 5, and A.J., age 6 months, were her greatest joy," said Bishop.

"She touched many people who have special memories of her. Some of those people have shared their memories already and I'm sure more people will share theirs in the future. I choose to keep my endless supply private."

"Please," Bishop said, "allow our family and friends to mourn in private."

A fund has been set up to help the three Bishop children. Donations can be sent to the Bishop Children's Education Fund at any First Source Bank.

This just breaks my heart and makes me sick to my stomach. I can't even imagine what she was going through knowing she was going to die and leave behind her husband and children. How can someone have done something so senseless. I pray that this person is brought to justice.

Maybe if the news people didn't ask such idiotic questions, such as "How do you feel since your wife (or mother) was murdered?" Stupid questions like that are what tick me off...how do they think someone would feel? Don't ask moronic questions...Also, just because they have bills to pay, doesn't mean they have to gather information from the family. Get information from the Police. That's all you need to report.

"Please," Bishop said, "allow our family and friends to mourn in private." Translation: local news people are badgering the family for comments. Well, local news people have bills to pay, too.
