SOUTH BEND — Today isn't the kind of day you would want to wear shorts and flip flops outside. But that's exactly what some Notre Dame students are doing to raise money and awareness for South Bend's Center for the Homeless.

The second annual Day of Man meant more than 120 young men from Notre Dame's Siegfried Hall are braving the ice and cold to prove a point.

"The idea is that people will look at us and say 'Wow, what the heck are they doing?''' explained Notre Dame student Robbie Bernardin.

"It's a little bit crazy, but that's the idea, to be bold and say, hey, college kids aren't just concerned about themselves. We're willing to kind of push the envelope a little bit and do something most kids would not be willing to do on a day when the high [temperature] is 30 degrees," said Bernardin.

The students are wearing their shorts, T-shirts and flip flops all day, including their walks to and from class. They'll also be accepting donations all day Thursday.

To donate, you can stop by Stone Hedge from 12 to 3 p.m. and in front of the North Dining Hall on campus between 5 and 7 p.m. All money raised goes to South Bend's Center for the Homeless.

Last year, the Day of Man event raised $6,000 for the Center.
