A car and horse-drawn buggy collided near Middlebury Tuesday afternoon, leaving one woman with minor injuries.

The accident happened shortly after 4:15 p.m. on U.S. 20 near the intersection of C.R. 43, Elkhart County authorities said.

The driver of the buggy, Carolyn Slabach, 63, of Middlebury, was making a turn onto C.R. 43 when a car driven by Nathan Schwartz, 18, of Sarasota, Fla., was headed in the same direction.

Schwartz collided with the buggy as it turned into his path, police said.

Slabach was treated for minor head lacerations. She was cited for failing to yield the right-of-way, authorities said.

Schwartz was not injured in the accident.
