SOUTH BEND — A 14-year-old South Bend boy found to have a gun Tuesday at Washington High School remains in juvenile detention Wednesday.

A school security officer took the student to the school office for a dress code violation and during the course of the investigation, a .25-caliber handgun was found on the boy, said Capt. Phil Trent, a city police spokesman.

The gun was not loaded and no ammunition was present, police said.

The boy was taken to the Frederick Juvenile Justice Center, where he remains.

He is scheduled to appear in juvenile court Wednesday afternoon for a detention hearing.

Why doesn't anyone do anything about this....I think for starters, there should be more security in this school...I also believe that if there is any sign of gang related activities, it should be stopped before anything happens,

There is NO way that we are going to get all parents to be involved in their kid's lives, let alone care about them. There are too many low life people, from ALL walks of life, popping out unwanted babies. These people basicly let these children raise themselves. Then, monkey see monkey do. It is a sad situation! Open your eyes people!!!

Well when you have parents who could care less about there children this is what happens..Its time to stop blaming everyone but ourselfs (parents), its time we take stand of our children and do something about it...I know my Mom and Dad would of never thought of doing this stuff and I am sure almost everyones elses parents were raised the same way...
