GRANGER — A cell phone and wallet were taken from a Granger home while the homeowners slept Thursday morning, according the St. Joseph County Police.

The woman who lives in the house in the 12200 block of Timberline Trace North told police she woke up from sleeping on the couch about 3 a.m. and saw a "tall male with a stocking cap" leave the kitchen.

She found her husband asleep, and he then called police.

Police said the husband told them he had closed the overhead garage door when he got home but found it open after his wife saw the man in the kitchen.

The cell phone and wallet were taken from a basket in the kitchen.

Anybody with information is asked to call the sheriff’s department at (574) 235-9611 or Crime Stoppers at (574) 288-STOP.

AI live on this block of Timberline Trace. Let me assure you that I will allow no one to indanger my home. I lock every door and double check it before i go to bed. Recently I have been extra cautious when leaving at night. But, there has been no further sign of mischieve.

Let me start off saying that it is wrong to steal. Now, let me ask this, what kind of man would not defend his home. If my wife tells me there is a man in the house, I would have her call the cops to have them claim his remains.Man up! That means defend your family! I live in Granger and would I introduced the stranger to my H&K .45 Caliber...Just my two cents....

Are you tired of people criticizing those who protect themselves. Nowhere in the Constitution have I read, please hurt me & my family, trash my home and take everything I've worked for all my life. But in the Constitution is the Right to Bear Arms Ammendment and that is just what foamy does! I won't hit you with little squirrel fists but I will use my AK-47, 357 and a 9Mil Glock if you break in to my tree! I'll put you next to my Deer head trophy for all to admire. What's mine is mine!

These people could have locked everything up. It's called breaking in for a reason. Garage doors do open for other remotes than the ones it comes with. Garage door openers work on radio frequency. I know of a door that opens with a weed-wacker.

A persons house is their safe haven. If you enter that without permission then be prepared to deal with the consequences. I'm tired of all the liberal crap about how its the victims fault for crimes. I make sure my place is lock up all the time but you're bound to make a mistake over the years. I'm not out to kill any one but if it came down to it I'll protect my family with all I got. Obviously cowboy comment boy has never been robbed or had much worse done to your family at your house. I have

Inferior people steal from us because we have a life and jobs and we can recoup our losses because we are superior. They are inferior. They can't live like us, so they have to steal our stuff. We are superior. They are inferior.

This needs to be a learning experience for all involved. Make sure doors are closed and locked. I also have a gun by the bed and have no problems using it should I have to.

It's nice to see all of you criticizing the people who lived in the home and were stolen from. Nice to see all of you really care for your fellow neighbors. I feel aweful for these people. What if they would have been killed instead of just stollen from? what if it was YOUR home that was robbed. All of you need to have a little compassion for others.. next time it might be YOU! And locking doors... doesn't always help. You do know people can figure other ways out. Think about that.

Don't forget you cowboy hat, holster, & spurs while you play wild west. Do you have a horsey too? Actually, if you're so dead set on killing someone, why don't you leave all your doors & windows open & put valuables in full view, so you can fulfill your ultimate wish to kill another person.

Granger-people who have more invested in their homes-woudn't you be a little more careful with keeping your belongings AND home locked up? Thieves don't steal from people who DON'T HAVE ANYTHING!!!!!

Do you watch the news at all! This is not the 50's where you didn't always need to lock your doors! We are in the age of constantly looking over your shoulder! I advice you to lock your doors!

It's spooky when a thief will take the risk of entering a home when people are there.
