GRANGER — WSBT's First Thing in the Morning crew is nearing the end of week 5 of their Why Weight series. Friday morning they touched on the topic of childhood obesity, and a local gym made just for kids to fight it.

"If they're going to do it at an early age, it's building a lifestyle," said Monkey Business owner Stephanie Hostetler. "It's teaching them that it's part of your lifestyle to work out every day."

Kids can run on specially-sized treadmills, ride bikes or even lift weights.

Some of the classes offered at Monkey Business are Salsa Tots and Numbers & Letters for Toddlers. Infants can work out with their mothers in Mommy & Me classes. The gym accepts kids up to 15 years old.

Monkey Business is located in Toscana Park in Granger.

It's open 9:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. - 7 p.m. Monday-Friday, &
Saturdays 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Monkees must be the theme for fighting childhood obesity. Monkee Do www.MonkeeDo.com sells apparel based on the dont just monkey see, monkee do theme. A portion of the proceeds goes to the Children's Fitness Foundation. Monkee Do will launching a new product called the Do Tag that will raise funds for a variety of childhood obesity foundations.

Monkey Business is an open beautiful facility with 25 feet ceilings surrounded by natural light. Regardless of positioning of the machines the child is surrounded by natural light. My child looks forwad to the influence of Monkey Business. He has given up a snack a day to purchase the membership. The membership places my child in an environment to assure his life is good for him 10 - 20 years from now. That's every parents responsibility; for us Monkey Business is a positive experience.

Monkey Business is a place for children to get fit have fun that only cost 1.80 per day. 1.80 is much less than some places charge for adult's refreshments while parents wait to drive their children home.

Monkey Business is not for the Shallow Hal's of the world to judge what the reasoning is on why children are obese. Overweight children are judged enough by children at school. Monkey Business is about fighting childhood obesity. My daughter is a member of Monkey Business and she is very active and ambicious. Monkey Business is a place for her to get the personal training she needs and have fun with other children while getting healthy.

I really don't get how kids can get so fat. At that age, unless there's some sort of physical problem, kids have the metabolism of a hummingbird. They must be eating way, way too much & sitting around doing absolutely nothing.

There is a one time fee for an entire family of 125.00. 12.50 a week per child which includes all the classes. There are additional discounts for larger families.
