SOUTH BEND — Two area restaurants cited in illegal gambling on Super Bowl Sunday have paid their fines, and their cases are closed as far as the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission is concerned, a commission official said Tuesday.

A Between the Buns restaurant at 1803 S. South Bend Ave. paid a $500 fine and another at 3407 Lincoln Way East in Mishawaka paid a $250 fine. The two establishments were cited in illegal gambling Feb. 3 after excise police found a board with names listed on 100 numbered squares and sheets of paper that suggested illegal gambling was scheduled to take place during the Super Bowl.

It is unclear how many people had signed up to participate in the gambling, but a list of those people was found inside the restaurant, police said.

Catherine Wilson, a spokeswoman for the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office, said Tuesday that the prosecutor’s office had not yet received information on those incidents for consideration of filing criminal charges.
