ELKHART — An Elkhart man arrested on drunk driving charges last month could face further charges following the death of a woman he crashed into.

Jon Hicks, 46, was arrested on February 5. Police say he crashed into a car driven by 22-year-old Sara Martinez, who was eight months pregnant. She lost her unborn child as a result of the accident.

She was injured in the crash and taken to Elkhart General. She died on Thursday.

Police say Hicks' blood alcohol level at the time of the accident was three times the legal limit.

The prosecutor's office is reviewing the case.

It has been ten (10) months since his arrest, yet no trial date has been set. Has someone caused this to "go away"?

While I think this is horrendous, why sue the company's that make alcohol? They are not holding a gun to his head and making him drink. Many many people drink responsibly. Maybe the real problem is our justice system lets these people off with a 1 year suspension of license and attend classes for a first time offense. They still drink and drive and hurt people. Maybe they need jail time the first time

Yet another drunk loser kills an innocent victim (in this case 2!) These drunks need to get a life instead of taking the lives of others. Having been hit head on by a drunk driver myself, I dont take too kindly to hearing about others being injured or killed by drunks. Society has made it difficult for people to smoke conveniently in public, lets do the same thing with drinking and driving! UGH ! PEOPLE !

My sincerest condolences go out to the family of this woman. I hope that you may soon find peace in the face of this senseless tragedy. In times such as these it is difficult to turn to God, but He will comfort you if you let Him.

This is very sad to me. A young woman lost her baby and then she lost her life what a very sad situation. It is always the innocent people that die in a drunk driving cases. He should be locked up for the rest of his life and taken of the streets so he can't kill a again. I hope her family will get some justice. KEEP YOUR BUTT AT HOME IF YOUR GOING TO DRINK AND DRIVE. IT'S OTHER PEOPLE ON THE ROAD BESIDES YOU

So! He killed TWO people. A 22 year old and a baby in the womb for 8 months. He should get life for murder. So should every other person who takes the life of a child in a womb!

needs to pay for his rotten decision to drink and drive. Put him away forlife without parole, for killing 2 people. poor girl had to be cut out of her car lost her baby that night fought to live but lost the batttle so he needs to lose his freedom as well. At least he got to live longer than her short 22 yrs.

He's pathetic! He deserves to spend quite a bit of time considering he killed 2 people! I drink on occasion but at least I have the common sense to do it at home! I hope the judge throws the book at him.

This is what happens when you drink and drive!! If you drink keep your butt home!! What a loss 22 years old and pregnant. Jon you may want to invest in some soap on a rope, you look like you could use some soap anyhow.
