Students at Argos High School were dismissed early Monday after an unidentified caller phoned in a bomb threat against the school.

Students were dismissed minutes before the end of school because of the threat. Police conducted a sweep of the school and found nothing.

The beginning of school on Tuesday will be delayed for two hours to allow authorities to conduct another sweep of the building.

"The safety of every one of these kids is as important to me as it is to the parents. I will not release to allow the kids back into the school until I'm confident that it is safe for them to come back in. And this just proves that it can happen anywhere," said superintendent Barbara Flory.

The bomb threat was confirmed by a spokesman for the Indiana State Police post in Bremen, which is helping the Argos Police Department in the investigation.

Wow! This happened in my own back yard(seriously!) and I knew nothing about it! You'd think with a bomb threat they'd clear out the surrounding area also!

I am the step parent of a AHS student. when I heard on Channel 22 lastnight that there had been a bomb threat...I called my step child. They had no clue what was happening. I realize that when something of this nature happens the first concern are the students. I applaud AHS for thier quick respnse to the situation.

I think that this is one of the most scary things that has happened since i have attended school here. I am upset that they arent informing us of the details and i know my parents were a little angry that they were not informed when this all happened! What about those students who dont have parents or anyone to go home to but over all it was really scary and hopefully it wont happen again!

Argos administrators need to review their "open door policy" that allows people to literally walk right in the doors of the school with essentially no security check points. Would be bombers/criminals will not stop to check-in at the reception desk! As parents and school administrators, we should not fool ourselves in to false thinking that school violence - of any kind - "could not happen in a small community like Argos." Lack of planning to prohibit these activities contribute to this problem

As an AHS grad, I can tell you that there are wonderful teachers and admin that will do anything possible to keep the children in their care safe...unfortunately it is a sad world we live in now...

Schools are supposed to be able to provide a safe educational environment. Bomb threats or fear of guns and knives should not be a part of that education. Unfortunately, there is nothing the school can do to prevent outside threats. I appreciate that they are taking it seriously and trying to protect the children. It really makes it tough on parents, though. There aren't many choices in education and you don't want to put your child's safety at risk. One more reason for a Virtual school option.

To Argos HS Parent- Yes I know they do drills, but seriously....My children have told me all about them and some things make me roll my eyes. In this small town you can bet your bottom dollar that someone knows who did it.

This is madness. I just read it. I think there should be different schools for different grades. that is really scary. I personally dought my school gates could handle a bomb blast Plymouth Indiana

What bothers me about what happened yesterday is that when I called the police department to determine what was happening, I was told they didn't know. As a parent of two students in the school, one in elementary and one in high school, this is very upsetting. It was quite obvious that "something bad" was happening at the school yet I was not informed what my children's safety had been threatened by. Also, why was there not any news coverage about this incident last night. Keep parents informed

I never heard it on the news tonight. I have a grand daughter who goes to Argos high school. I hope they investigate this good enough before the students go back to school. This is very scary & it shows it can happen in any school. There are some very sick minds in this world. There are some very sick minds out there.

the school officials would be able to protect the kids. the school has always been that way. im happy to live in a small community. the kids are taught what to do if there is a problem within the school. they do drills about it.

I hope the investigation finds out who did this. I think it's sad and sick that people do such a thing. Praise God, all is safe and sound.

This was not just the high school. They rushed out the elementary kids, telling them to get away from the building and get home as quickly as possible. Just an FYI Argos is a K-12 school all in one building. This is one of the many reasons why I was not comfortable with the way the school is set up. What if this had been a gun issue as we all have seen way too much of recently? Could the school close the gates between the HS and elementary/middle school fast enough? Would the gates even matter?
