LAPORTE (AP) — The murder trial of a woman charged with killing a newborn girl to whom she denies giving birth has been rescheduled for July.

LaPorte Circuit Judge Tom Alevizos reset Kathy Phillips' trial for July 14 because a doctor who had performed DNA testing in the case would not be able to testify this month due to an injury suffered in a fall on ice.

"He's incapacitated at least temporarily," Alevizos said Monday.

Phillips, 30, had been scheduled to go to trial March 24 on charges of murder and neglect. The trial originally had been set for March 2007, but has been repeatedly delayed.

Phillips is charged in the death of the baby her husband, Garry, told police he found in a garbage bag on their property near Rolling Prairie on March 12, 2006.

Prosecutors say DNA testing shows the couple are the biological parents of the infant, but they deny it. Kathy Phillips also denies having been pregnant before the dead child was found.

The LaPorte County Jail refused to say whether she was in custody Monday night. There was no number for Garry Phillips in published phone listings for the area.
