BOURBON — March Madness isn't just about college basketball. For one local community, it still means high school hoops.

The Triton boy's basketball team headed down to Indianapolis Friday morning for the state finals, and fans gave them quite a send-off.

The Triton Trojans boarded the bus on a mission — to bring back its first state championship.

"I can't tell you how excited we are,” said Lyna Moriarty, whose son is on the team. “There are three towns that make up this school — Bourbon, Etna Green, and Tippecanoe — so we're just all so proud of them."

"These kids worked a long time to get to earn the season and they've done that, it’s paid for itself,” said Todd McIntyre, who also has a son on the team.

Early on as the season got underway, fans, parents, players and coaches had a feeling that this could be a very special year in the school's basketball program.

"Yeah we all pretty much knew that our guys were gonna go all the way,” said Triton student Kelsey Bessinger.

"I knew from the beginning this was going to be a magical season,” said Jami McIntyre, parent of a player on the team. “These guys have been together for years, I've watched them all for years. I knew it coming in."

"We really did,” agreed student Taryn Cooper. “We really had faith in our boys this year and it’s just been a really great ride, cheering them on the whole way."

“The community is really impressed at the way they've been playing and playing as a team and putting forth a good effort in practice and everything else,” said Jerry Moriarty, whose son is on the team.

Tip-off for the game is 10:37 Saturday morning.
