Non-union, certified teachers are facing the threat of layoffs in Rochester.

The School Board is considering a proposal to lay off teachers.

Monday night, more than 60 people attended a meeting to protest the plan. Many were showing their support for the high school's band director.

"I think he has meant a great deal to a lot of students. He was an inspiration for our daughter as she went through high school," said Marv Overmyar.

"He impacts people to the core. He challenges them in every walk of life, not just school and not just band, but to be a good person, to respect people and really demands that and that's really why he's a great man," said Nathan Barker, a member of the band.

The school board says it will consider the public's input before making any decision.

They're scheduled to take a vote on the plan during a meeting April 10th.
