ST. JOSEPH, Mich. — A boil water order has been issued for several townships and villages in Berrien County and is expected to be in effect for at least the next 48 hours.

Residents in Lincoln Charter Township, St. Joseph Charter Township, Royalton Township, Shoreham Village, and Stevensville Village should boil their water for at least 2 minutes and let cool to room temperature before using.

The city has been experiencing a drop in water pressure since 1 p.m. after a power outage in downtown St. Joseph Tuesday afternoon. The water treatment plant's backup power generator was not working at the time.

I have been boiling my water before washing dishes as well. Not sure if it's needed, but I'd rather be on the safe side. It is a time consuming process though...

I am concerend with the time of day this happened, because I like others used tap water in both drinking & cooking. How will I wash dishes? Do I still use tap water? Please advise.

Not for 48 hours. You might have to go buy some bottled water...Also, on a side note make sure you don't use your ice machine either.
