SOUTH BEND — An Indianapolis woman remained hospitalized Wednesday morning after an accidental shooting, one of five incidents involving guns to which police responded from Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday morning.
The first, a shooting of a pregnant woman in the 400 block of Tyler, is being called accidental. Police believe Lisa Washington, of Indianapolis, was shot Tuesday afternoon by a boyfriend who was showing off a large-caliber handgun.
As of this morning, Washington was still at Memorial Hospital listed in serious condition. Her boyfriend, who fled the scene after the shooting, has not been found by police.
In a second shooting, a 35-year-old man was wounded in the leg outside an apartment building at 400 Eastview St. at about 12:40 a.m. Wednesday.
Police say they found the victim lying on the ground outside of the apartment, but he wouldn’t provide details of the incident.
A witness told police that three men got out of a dark-colored Buick car and started punching and kicking the man before shooting him in the leg and taking his wallet.
The man was taken to Memorial Hospital, where it was believed his injuries were not life threatening.
Police also responded to a string of drive-by shootings overnight, in which no one was injured but at least two homes suffered damage.
At the first, near the intersection of Carroll and Altgeld streets, a family told police they were asleep inside the home when they heard a car drive down the alley and six shots fired just after 1 a.m.
Police sent to the scene found shell casings and bullet fragments in the home.
At the scene of another incident at 1:25 a.m. in the 100 block of East Milton, police found bullet holes and shell fragments.
According to police, witnesses at both houses believe the incidents are linked to a fight over a failed relationship with a woman.
The final gun incident of the night, police said, occurred in the 700 block of East Indiana Avenue about 1:30 a.m..
A 19-year-old male told police he was shot at by two men driving a white Pontiac Grand Prix. No one was injured and police believe the incident is part of long-standing feud.

Lower Property Taxes??? I wish. I live just a few blocks from here and pay $2600 a year and see NO relief in sight regardless of what they promise. My expensive property taxes have gotten us knowhere. They aren't using the money to protect us anyway. I've seen this neighborhood go down hill since I moved in 3 years ago and the Police do NOTHING. Our home has been robbed, we can't even go to grocery store without setting our alarm system. I AM FED UP. My children can't even go outside!
