SOUTH BEND – Police have arrested two men they believe are connected with Wednesday’s drive-by shooting that injured two men.

Police believe Travis L. Thomas, 21 of South Bend, and Jacques D. Thomas, 22 of South Bend, are also connected to a string of three separate shooting incidents that took place late on the city’s south side Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.

The two men arrested by police may have been targeted in some of the incidents, investigators said.

The two men in custody, who police say live in the 100 block of East Milton Street, have been arrested on charges of aggravated assault stemming from the shooting in 200 block of East Broadway Street where 24 shell casings were left in the street.

Capt. Phil Trent, South Bend police spokesman, said the cases continue to be investigated and all information is being forwarded to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office for review and possible additional charges.

Police stopped a vehicle matching a description provided to investigators Wednesday morning while checking on a report of shots fired in the 700 block of East Indiana Avenue.

Trent said it is unclear if the car or its occupants were directly related to the report of shots fired.

A quantity of suspected cocaine and six handguns were recovered from the vehicle and an arrest for illegal handgun possession was made, Trent said.
