SOUTH BEND — A former employee of the South Bend Juvenile Correctional Facility pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct Wednesday morning for having sex with a male inmate of the facility.

Julie A. Singleton, 34, a secretary in the facility’s education department at the time, admitted to having inter-course with a 16-year-old male inmate in 2006.

Under a plea agreement, Singleton would not serve more than 18 months in prison for the Class D felony. Judge Roland W. Chamblee Jr. is scheduled to sentence her May 14.

Also, how about the person who reported this event.... I'm not racist, or even a sexist in anyway. I do know through some years of experience though, certain genders and races do harm to others just to justify their own lives of humility and dismay. Well, with that said, I do know the lady who "Wanted Julie's Job," was only a temp and was jealous, maybe even envious of Julie.... Good luck lady who got the job and congratulations you succeeded. Thats right now one knows about that or spoke it

Well, let us pray and hope that maybe one day anybody who wrote to this blog will never have to face critical judgment that burdens everything to do with their lives. Let's face it, all we see here is ppl cross-examining with, what they consider "facts" about something they really don't focus on Julie's actual case. Instead it's about 2 runaways, this, and that. I guess it's too hard to actually do the research. Oh that's right, no one can think upon the actual investigation or report.

No one but her and the boy were there to know all of the facts. However; where is any physical proof? None was ever found. If your lawyer was urging you to take a plea agreement rather than face 3.5 years, what would you do? She has kids, an education, and a life to think about. Did any of you know that this kid was let out early if he changed his story from, "nothing happened," to, "she did it"?

If she admitted to having intercourse with a 16yr old detainee...what more facts do we need? How about the fact that this is someone in a facility meant to help get troubled youth back on track..how can there be any defense here? What are the facts we should consider before becoming outraged? Consider the mental damage done to a kid that already has issues with authority..will he be a trusting or trustworthy adult? Has his time in incarceration taught him anything? No..it has reinforced neg.

It's harsh to think that somebody who really won't or hasn't taken the time actually research what was said about the facility could actually judge her so quickly. "It's not over until the fat lady sings."

You wouldn't be so quick to judge. Trust me, she didn't do it.

Okay, I'm all for being impartial but IF there were any defense for her having sex with a 16 yr old detainee than she certainly would have expressed it. Are you going to claim she was forced? It was therapy? How can you possibly explain this behavior? I can see where the humor works its way into the picture but this really smacks of poor judgement. If he is not mentally challanged he is of age to consent, which doesn't give her any green lights, if he is she has a whole other batch of problems.

She is an adult and supposed to have better judgement than to have sex with a child. I am a former employee for this facility and can't fathom the thought of doing such an awful act of disrespect. She is clearly selfish and lonely. I hope that her and his family can survive mentally healthy from this tragic case of sexual abuse.

The blatant ignorance displayed here exemplifies her inability receive a fair trial leaving her no choice but to plead guilty. Do some research-read the report to Gov. Daniels from the atty. general (9/05) if you want to know about the abuse that actually goes on at this facility. The charges here only serve to alleviate pressure for a superintendent who is clearly doing a poor job of protecting inmates. Without involving sex, the media doesn't see a scandal worth reporting I guess.

Get the facts straight before you condemn this woman. The ignorance displayed by those who have responded here prove it is impossible for her to receive a fair trial, and hence, she had no choice but to plead guilty. If your really want to know what goes on in this facility, try doing a little research. There was an interesting report sent to Gov. Daniels on 09/05 that outlines the abuse that actually occurs there. But since it doesn't involve sex, it's not scandalous enough for the media.

This makes the incident where two boys ran away from this facility even more mystifying! I'll guarentee them they won't find any 34 year old woman on the streets that they can afford! I certainl hope there is no discrimination going on there. Oh well, you know what they say; the grass is always greener...

This is sick. I know if it was my kid in the center i would be having a major issue with the facility right now. My question is. Where is her husband? And what would posses an adult to do something like this to begin with?

Maybe somebody ought to get all their facts straight before they pass judgement!!!!!!!!!

So does this get some time shaved off of his sentance? I can't believe it, when I went to parkview they didn't even give you privacy while you were alone. This guy must of had one hell of a lawyer to get this program set up. Can't say it's going to deter crime much either. Better start hiring a few more 'Secretery's'.

At what point does the defendant find out the judge addigned to their case is Chamblee and can quit worrying about spending any time in prison?

R U kidding me?!! 18 mo! This person is dealing with kids who already have major problems with adults, trust, respect, etc, and this person only serves 18 mo! She should have been sentenced to yrs! It is this type of crap that makes a mockery of our judicial system. It is too ridulous to even find the right words to comment on. There isin't a problem with todays youth, there is a problem with todays adults.
