Some of South Bend's heavy hitters are throwing their support behind a candidate for governor.

Jim Schellinger received endorsements from Mayor Steve Luecke and former Indiana Governor Joe Kernan Wednesday.

Schellinger credits South Bend for helping him form his values, which he plans to use in this campaign.

“It's always great to be home," he said. "I've lived in Indianapolis now for 24 years as well as South Bend and no matter how far away I am, South Bend is always home."

Schellinger's opponent in the Democratic primary is now reaching more voters.

Jill Long Thompson began running ads on local television Tuesday.

Thompson said at a news conference Tuesday she would work to place a cap on taxes that are collected on fuel.
