SOUTH BEND — Prosecutors charged another man in connection with the murder of 16-year-old Ja-Vonda Tharbs in April 2006.

Terry N. Waddell, 21 of South Bend, was charged with one count of conspiracy to commit murder, a Class A felony punishable by up to 50 years in prison. Waddell is at the St. Joseph County jail on $100,000 cash bond.

Tharbs was shot at her sister’s Beacon Heights apartment while waiting to go to the prom. Her shooting reportedly was an act of retribution and she was not the intended victim.

In December a jury convicted 21-year-old Larry Mitchell of South Bend for shooting Tharbs. He was given the maximum sentence of 65 years in prison.

i have know terry for years and i have not known him to do anything like this so this is a real shocker to me that is so crazy hopefully the truth will really come if guilty then they'll do the time for the crime but if inicent i wish them well everybody is always lookind down on a young black male because they associate with the wrong people or just becuse the hang out on one side of town it could have been your kids you never know what your kids are doing while they are out the house

Edwardsburg..I'm just glad the Police did not stop investigating this case just because the shooter is in prison. I would hazard a guess that maybe an uncooperative witness got jammed up in the system and used information he or she had as a bargaining chip.

This is so sad. I was hearing word on the streets that he may be involved but I just knew it was rumors and I never listen to rumors. He is from the "Lake" and so is my kids. I have a son that is the same age and we know him quite well. What a shame! I hope they are wrong about him!
