An Indiana State Police K-9 unit searched LaVille Jr.-Sr. High School after a group of students threatened to bring weapons to the school on Friday, April 4, 2008 (WSBT photo)

LAKEVILLE — LaVille Jr.-Sr. High School was on lockdown Friday after police say a group of students threatened to bring weapons to the school.

Police say four students were involved — two who were already suspended and two who were in school Friday morning.

At least one of those students indicated he brought weapons to school. Police told WSBT that student and another apparently left the school, threatening to return with more weapons. Police went to their homes and brought both students back to the school for questioning.

One student was led in handcuffs to the back of the building where they thought he might have hidden some weapons.

Approximately 7-8 police cars from area departments responded to the scene and officers searched the building. The lockdown ended around 12:30 p.m. after a search of the building and surrounding grounds found no weapons.

The approximately 600 students at the school were being kept inside their classrooms. Parents are being allowed to take their children home.

Police stress that no one has been injured and the students are safe.

Why don't you ask HIM why he moved to our school district, and what types of criminal behaviors he had BEFORE even coming to LaVille. Then we'll talk about how he never had a chance here. Don't blame LaVille kids for his actions 'til you have facts.

I remember being in Jr High and a kid in my grade brought a gun to school and he was expelled for it. No media coverage then... I also remember when he came back when I was in HS and everyone was talking about it. Then there was an incident where one of the students had a rifle mounted on his truck or something... No big deal for country folk though right?

Honestly, what does building a new school have to do with this situation? There is alot of blame on these kids parents, assuming they don't spend time with them. What about the parents of the kids that are making life hell at school for these boys? Do they know their kids are bullies, or is little Mikey and Susie perfect? People need to open their eyes.

Discipline. Respect. These kids..adults for that matter, lack any sense of responsibility for their actions. Parents: don't be your child's friend. Be a parent. Get involved with your child. Know what they are doing. Know who they are. Talk to them. What is outside the house to mold them into what they are does not work. Kids: don't be confrontational. Don't take the situation of "you just don't understand!". Don't think everything your parents do, is to embarrass you. Parents were kids too.

If parents can walk into the lunchroom and see it, how can the teachers and administration not see it? DO SOMETHING ABOUT BULLIES!!!!! It's not just boys, girls are just as mean.

And what punishment will the other kids get that picked on these 4 boys until they hit this point? im not justifying their actions, they should be punished appropriately, but i also think that parents should not just worry about what their kids are carrying around, but how they're treating people at school. i graduated from LV last year, i've seen how those boys got treated around there. If you don't have money, the right last name, good clothes, or your parents don't volunteer...you're screwed

People of all ages need to believe and have faith in THEMSELVES, and realize that they personally control their own actions. Religion has become to quick and easy of an answer for too many people. We need to focus on what is physically here on Earth and WE OURSELVES need to be responsible for our actions. Hopefully the parents and children in this situation realize this. One more thing to add to my last comment: When things like this happen, it's sad, and when someone gets killed, it's tragic. Should the kids be punished? SURE Should the parents be held accountable? If they aren't giving the child the attention they deserve and letting them run wild, then yes, they should be held accountable too. Contributory negligence? Accessory to the crime? However you want to phrase it....maybe charging them will get them involved in their kids' lives.

Another classic case of two less fortunate students who were at the butt of everyones jokes. I am by no means condoning their drastic actions, but I have to have some sympathy for them. Yes, ridicule is a right of passage in high school but some students get the worst of it. If we're going to throw the book at them we need to tear a couple of pages out and throw them at the students who had a part in this incident by making high school a living hell for these boys.
