An alert neighbor is being credited for leading police to a burglary in progress Friday. A neighbor called police to a home on Alfred Street at approximately 1 p.m. after seeing two men knock on the front door and then walk around to the back of the house when no one answered.

When police arrived they found a rear basement window broken, and heard movement inside the home. When police were surrounding the home a man opened the back door, saw the officers and ran back inside.

Police then ordered the suspects out of the home, and the two men walked outside with their hands up.

Inside, police and the homeowner found a plastic tub filled with electronics from the home.

Police arrested 18-year-old Tony McQueary and 19-year-old Timothy Poertner, both of Elkhart, on burglary charges.
