LAKEVILLE — LaVille Jr.-Sr. High School was put on lockdown Friday after getting a tip some students had weapons at school. Police never found any weapons at the school, but it still made for some tense moments.
It started after a parent called the school and said four boys planned to bring weapons.
Many parents took their children out of school early Friday. About 300 students left with their parents — that’s about half of the student body. But police say none of them were in any danger.
Students were put on lockdown around 10 a.m. and within the hour parents started to show up.
“There are police in there, dogs in there,” said parent Karol Senour. “They're scared and they just want to go home."
Senour got several text messages from her kids inside the school
"You should come and get me,” she said the text message read.
Other students made calls using their cell phones as rumors swirled that four students had weapons.
"I thought she said guns, so I'm coming down here to get my son,” parent Michael Gross explained.
"A lot of people were nervous, shaking, crying and stuff because that's the first time it's ever happened,” said student Erik Walsh.
Police quickly narrowed down their investigation to two students — two boys who had been at school Friday morning but left. The rumor was they left to get the weapons.
But after detaining both, and retracing their steps, police found nothing.
"Bottom line: No weapons were found in the school and around the school property,” said Sgt. Bill Redman of the St. Joseph County Police.
"It's nothing more than a rumor — nothing more than a rumor,” said principal John Arnett. “The police said they can’t substantiate anything more than that."
Still, for many it’s the thought of what could happen.
"I just didn't think it would happen here,” one parent said.
"My heart's racing right now thinking about it,” said another.
"Paducah, Ky., Columbine, and I know the school has it under control, the school does a good job with this situation but the kids are scared,” Senour said.
And for these parents, that's enough to take their kids home.
The lockdown was lifted around 12:30 p.m.
The two boys believed to be involved were questioned and police searched their homes. At this time the boys deny having anything to do with bringing weapons to school.
Police say both boys were on probation when they skipped school Friday morning. That violated their probation, so they were taken to the Juvenile Justice Center in South Bend.
In their search, police found a duffel bag containing some stolen items — a car stereo and GPS system — one of the boys admitted to stealing.

You people are dumb. There were no guns. Nobody died. They stole something. Point blank. GET OVER IT. It aint got nothing to do with the parents or anybody else, not even the rich snooty kids. So, let it go. Nobody was hurt. Nobody was in danger. It was simply just a big waste of time! That's all. Laterr gaters.
