SOUTH BEND -- Big names continue to campaign in our area as Indiana's primary is just around corner. While Ethel and Max Kennedy made stops in South Bend to show their support for Sen. Barack Obama, former Indiana Governor Joe Kernan hit the streets to campaign for Sen. Hillary Clinton. But both sides say campaigning here is more than just about showing their support.

Voters prepare to head to the polls next month for Indiana's May 6 primary.

Some big names continue to campaign in our area for senators Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. But both sides stress how important the Hoosier state is in this year’s election.

The Colbert Family didn't plan on making a stop at Washington Hall.

"We actually just happened to come for visit to the campus and then saw Ethel Kennedy was here," said Kelley Colbert.

The Kennedy family spent the day stumping for Sen. Obama on the campus of Notre Dame.

"Because when I look at Barack Obama, I see a man who will tell me a truth," said Max Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy's son.

Hillary supporters hit the streets, handing out flyers while also trying to drum up support.

"We have to have a president who's ready from day one to be at full and deal with all those things. And I believe Sen. Clinton is the person to do that," said Kernan.

But both sides say campaigning here is more than just about showing their support.

For the first time in decades, Indiana's vote will play a crucial role in who becomes our next president.

"The whole country is going to be watching Indiana. In fact the world will be watching," said Kennedy.

"As Hoosiers we all ought to enjoy it because with all that attention is a lot of information. It's a way for more and more people to be engaged, which we have already seen and it's good for the process. It's good for the country," said Kernan.

A country that some say is at a crossroads. And voters have the chance to decide which direction it will go.

"But you should know, this is it. And we are going to move," said Kennedy.

Next Wednesday, Senator Obama will begin a three-day bus tour through Indiana.

Right now, there's no word on whether he'll make a stop in our area.
