MISHAWAKA — Police arrested an Elkhart man Wednesday night who they believe was preparing to manufacture meth.

A caller alerted officers to a possible intoxicated driver on Fourth Street in Mishawaka, and police followed the vehicle to the 7-Eleven at the corner of Milburn and Logan streets about 8:10 p.m.

In the store’s parking lot, police said, they found the man inside his vehicle with an unregistered firearm and items used to manufacture meth.

The Indiana State Police’s clandestine lab team was called to the scene, and, police said, investigators found meth, cocaine and Valium inside the vehicle. They also found meth and marijuana on the man.

Police say the 25-year-old Elkhart man was arrested, accused of manufacturing meth within 200 yards of a school, possessing two or more precursors for the manufacture of meth, possession of illegal drugs and carrying a handgun without a license. The man was taken to the St. Joseph County Jail.

Gabe, you're what I like to term "intellectually void", or in layman's terms "a complete idiot". God forbid you have children. Maybe you should go visit all the children in foster care or the hospital because of the corrupt adults who spend their life living in a druggy haze.

Gabe, you're an idiot. "Victimless Crime" my butt. The guy was a suspect in a drive by shooting, he illegally obtained the weapon he had, and not to mention the dangers behind manufacturing meth. Meth effects everyone when the idiots steal and commit other crimes to obtain the ingredients needed. I know ignorance isn't a crime, but if it were, Gabe you'd be at the top of the list of Most Wanted.

I watched this go down from the gas pumps. From the moment the cop stopped this druggie I could tell he was thinking something wasn't right. This was a very dangerous situation and I think the cop did a great job making everyone else safe. It didn't take long for the cop to point his gun, and take control of this creep. The meth head kept trying to reach in the car and the cop made it clear that would be a mistake. This area of Mishawaka has really got bad with drugs and crime. Great job MPD!

Gabe, your points are mute. Meth and such were not around when our freedom's were penned. The very fact that he had quantities of a substance that is illegal made the arrest proper and legal. Not to mention he had an unregistered hand gun. The chemicals used to make meth are very dangerous and doing having it around a gas station is disaster waiting to hamppen.

Gabe and Joe must be brothers. Who in there right mind would mix everything you've ever been told was poison together and think about getting high with it. This is suicide

I agree with Gabe. Treatment for people with drug problems, not a cage. Only violent people should get the cage; and they should be kept there. Then you could go out any time, day or night, in any part of town. Freedom.

Gabe must be a customer of this idiot. Sorry your meth source is gone dude. Don't worry Gabe, I am sure he will get off on probation so you can get our fix again soon!

legalize and legislate all drugs. The war on drugs is NOT WORKING, obviously.

Gabe, it is not a victimless crime when he has poisonous items in a vehicle near where kids go to school that could explode. Also, when someone is taking a drug, more like poison, like that, it is just a short time before they will die. How can you say it is victimless?People on that stuff kill others, steal, and are generally out of control of their lives.

Hey Gabe, where do you think these meth heads get the money to buy this trash. They are stealing things from the working folks. They aren't working because they can't pass a drug test. Welfare pays good but not quite good enough to pay for that Meth habit. He mixed dope and guns so it can go Federal. Throw away the key.

Hopefully this guy can get a good lawyer and avoid punishment for commiting a victimless crime. Those who choose to buy those substances from him are doing so of their own free will. No where in this senario is this man infringing on the freedoms and rights of other people, which is what laws are intended to prevent. Unfortunately this man is just another in a long line of victims to our ignorance in this country. Don't legislate morality, it's not what America was founded on.

Alrighty! Another meth maker off the streets, and this one really has some serious problems with himself and I'm sure those prison guys would gladly teach him a lesson.
