SOUTH BEND — Local students are getting a unique lesson in history this week. The Northern Indiana Center for History is hosting Civil War Days.

Reenactors will be dressing as Civil War soldiers and teaching children about the war.

Students have the opportunity to learn about the food they ate, the uniforms they wore, and the weapons they used.

"When you are looking at someone dressed in a replica uniform and you can ask them, 'What was it made of? How did you clean it? You had to live in this uniform for six months at a time?' They really see it in a whole different light,” said Marilyn Thompson of the Center for History.

Civil War Days will be open to the public Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
