A South Bend man pleaded guilty Wednesday in connection with a November 2007 crash that killed a pedestrian on the U.S. 20 Bypass.

Victor (Tony) A. Pellico, III, 38, pleaded guilty to one count of failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death, a felony, and operating a vehicle with 0.15 or more grams of alcohol in the blood, a misdemeanor.

After reports of an accident, the South Bend Police found 28-year-old Danielle Jones, of North Liberty, dead in the eastbound passing lane of the Bypass around 2:50 a.m. on November 18, 2007.

Police also found a red 1989 Toyota Camry with rear end damage, and a beige 2001 Ford F150 pick-up truck with front end damage.

Police believe the Toyota was parked on the side of the road and that Jones was standing outside the car at the time of impact.

Police found Pellico and his passenger about a quarter mile from the scene of the crash. He told police he saw the victim seconds before the crash but could not avoid her.

A blood test at the hospital showed his blood alcohol level to be 0.215.

Pellico is scheduled to be sentenced on July 11. He faces up to eight years in prison.
